Bhutan Tourism looks at better connectivity

Anupama Sushil - New Delhi

Sharing peaceful bilateral relations with India, Bhutan is now looking at newer ways to woo Indian tourists into the country for tourism purposes. The terrain of the country being mountainous, the natural beauty that it offers is exceptional, and complimenting that are some newer themes that it will be working on to attract more tourists. Some of the he newer of activities would be exploring the possibilities of trekking and hiking under the adventure activity segment. The country is also looking at introducing hot air ballooning and rafting as other activities in 2009. Harnessing the natural wealth of resources, the authorities are also looking at the possibility of developing the destination for spa therapies, informed Dr Akhilesh Singh, director of Eco Expeditions and tours, a representative of the Bhutan Tourism Corporation (BTC).

Working towards smoother accessibility of the tourism areas, the Bhutan government will be opening another exit point somewhere near the existing exist point of Guwahati on its road link from India, he added. This will no doubt help tourists plan their holidays, adding many other destinations to their itinerary. Also the air link to Bhutan remains extremely limited, with just one airline serving the sector. To address this, a Bhutanese private travel agency will be soon starting a private airline serving chosen sectors.
