Jharkhand plans aggressive strategy to overhaul tourism
Department of tourism to have its own website soon
Sanjeev Bhar - New Delhi
In order to promote itself as a strong destination for tourism,
the state of Jharkhand is planning an aggressive strategy to overhaul its entire
set-up. The department of tourism is investing heavily to promote not only its
various tourist destinations, but also to mend its existing bureaucratic set-up.
Speaking to Express TravelWorld, a senior official in the state tourism department
from Ranchi informed that a lot of developments have been planned and ministerial
negotiations are being carried out with full steam in an effort to overhaul
the tourism landscape of the state. "The state is planning to launch a
portal for its department of tourism, which will possess detailed information
about districts, cuisine, special tourist destinations, and art and culture,
to promote various forms of tourism from eco to heritage to religious tourism,"
the official said.
The uniqueness of the site will stem from its provision of
communication points, road and rail routes with maps for tourists. At present,
online activities of the tourism department are directed through the Jharkhand
government's official portal.
The government has decided to take up tourism development
and promotional activities on a large scale and has floated tenders for various
publicity and public awareness campaigns, targeted at promoting tourism to potential
travellers.
The state is also adding an adventure punch to its tourism
portfolio by investing in aero sports and other activities. On further questioning,
the source did not reveal any information related to the overall investment
that the department will incur. It was learnt that the state tourism department
will also add toy trains to further its hill tourism prospects.
| The state of Jharkhand is in the process of building
a strong Internal Tourism Management System (ITMIS), which will aim at offering
a platform for an internal messaging system, acts and policies, land acquisitions,
court cases, audit & compliance, allotment/expenditure, inventory management
system of hotel consumables (N-label), organogram of the department and
other offices, tourist analysis data on daily basis, human resource management
information /employee/service and other details, physical and financial
information of various tourism promotion schemes and asset management -
moveable & immoveable of the tourism department.
This will ensure that investors for this sector
are aware of the various activities related to tourism and can have quick
assessment of the situation with quick access to information. This is
also seen as an initiative to bring IT into the tourism spectrum to bridge
the gap between state and private parties, in order to gain mutual benefits
in a big way.
