Lufthansa BOM-MUC non-stop to be daily by October

Chetan Kapoor - Mumbai

Following Lufthansa's launch of its thrice weekly non-stop services between Mumbai and Munich early May, Heesen announced that these flights will turn into dailies by end-October once the winter schedule sets in.

Meanwhile, the present thrice weekly A340-300 flights provide 98 onward connections into Europe and 11 to North America via Munich, much to the advantage of flyers from Mumbai. "We offer 2,511 flights per week to European destinations via Munich, and adding more aircraft at our Munich hub would only improve our network quality," opined Steffen Harbarth, VP (Hub Development & Capacity Management), Hub Munich for Lufthansa German Airlines. The German carrier is also in talks with Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) to promote the Indian state, following its increase in frequency from Mumbai and will soon begin Pune-Frankfurt all-business class flights in July. "We have brought a group of ten German journalists to talk to MTDC and promote the destinations that Maharashtra has to offer to Germany," informed Heesen.

Munich too is being promoted. Corinna Born, manager (Marketing, Communications, Business Division Aviation), Munich Airport International, said, "The Indian traveller is becoming more mature and we would advice business travellers to plan their meetings in a way in which they can spend a day or two in the city.“
