State gears up for ‘Rajasthan Day Celebrations’

The state of Rajasthan, together with the Department of Tourism, Government of Rajasthan, has lined up a series of events, festivals and competitions to commemorate the forthcoming `Rajasthan Day Celebrations' scheduled to be held from March 21 to March 30, 2006.

The celebrations at the district level would begin with the 'Run for Rajasthan', scheduled to begin from March 17, 2006. Sports form an important part of celebrations and the divisional level sports competitions are to be held in the first week of March. The concept of night bazars would also be active at the district headquarters. Illumination of government buildings, circles and monuments are also scheduled to take place and prayers would be held at prominent religious places in the district.

Apart from this, cultural competitions for students would be held at district and divisional levels. Exhibitions on state achievements would also be conducted at district information centres. The cultural evening on Rajasthan Day will be held in association with local Kala Mandals and All India Radio. Both, the opening and closing days, of the celebrations will witness a display of fireworks. Apart from the above mentioned events one can also expect other events as per the local needs.

Apart from district level, extensive celebrations have been planned in the state capital of Jaipur. ‘Run for Rajasthan’ will also be held in Jaipur and will the plethora of events from bazaars to festivals to sports activities. Craft bazaar, night bazaar, rural sports, cultural competitions, international food festivals, theatre festivals, Amber Festival, evening shows, Rajasthan film festival, army show, adventure sports activity, etc are slated to be the highlights of the event. Free excursion tours for students would also be conducted. Maha artis, prayers, qawalis at various venues such as (Birla Temple, Shila Mata, Moti Doongari Ganeshji, Chardarwaza Durgah, Govind Devji, St. Xavier's Church, Tarkeshwarji and Khole ke Hanumanji) would be conducted. Deep Shrandhajali at Amar Jawan Jyoti would also be part of the event.

Tournaments like polo, golf and shows such as the Police Tattoo Show and Dancing Horse Show would be on display. International participation such as the Romanian students' presentation, folk performance by Russian Troupe are among the other highlights. The closing ceremony which will be held in Jaipur will witness an air show by the IAF and the lighting of Vidhansabha Bhavan will be its main highlights. Apart from this, there would be the music and band performances by the defence forces (army, navy and air) at the closing ceremony.
