Krishnatheeram : A unique blend of ethnic and laid-back ambience

Varkala is a quaint little fishing hamlet, just 50 kms from the capital city of Thiruvananthapuram. It is also an important Hindu centre of pilgrimage. Along the rocky shoreline of Varkala are a couple of covers with many a virgin sandy beach. Three of the most popular are the Varkala Beach, Papanasam Beach and the Thiruvambady Beach. Krishnatheeram is perched on the rock formation hugging the Thiruvambady Beach. Spread over half an acre of prime land, this tastefully laid out and spanking new resort with an ethnic architecture is indeed a warm and welcoming sight for sore eyes. The contours of the land and the coconut palms have been judiciously left intact with a marvelous open-air restaurant overlooking the beach and offering stunning views of endless sunsets setting the horizon ablaze every evening.

Krishnatheeram is perhaps the only holiday resort at Varkala that has such close proximity with the beach. They have built a walkway down from their lawns to the beach for the convenience of guests and tourists. The ambience here is laid-back, warm and friendly. Pebbled paths crisscross the property. They offer the guests 18 twin-bedded stylishly laid cottages both air-conditioned and non-air conditioned each with its own ethnic charm. One has bamboo walls and yet another is made of specially treated coconut palm logs. The bathrooms are spacious and en-suite with every modern convenience. They also offer round-the-clock room service.

The open-air restaurant spread out on the lawns offer international cuisine including seafood along with the prime catch-of-the-day. Cultural, art and dance performances on moonlit nights are held on the mini stage. Prakruthi is their speciality health food centre where only food and beverages of organic origin are served conforming to the stringent standards of Naturopathy. Charaka is their full-fledged ayurvedic centre that offers rejuvenating, restorative and curative therapies under the guidance of a team of ayurvedic doctors and masseurs. Grandha is the well-stocked library offering the guest a perfect get-away and the resort also has a boutique, Maruthi, which provides bountiful eco products, artifacts from God's own country.
