Dental Tourism: Growing Day By Day

The importance of tourism in the economic prosperity of the country needs no amplification. The central and all state governments are sparing no efforts to woo the tourist with packages which are attractive and appealing. Kerala, 'God's Own Country' and one of the 'Must See' travel destinations of the world according to the National Geographic Magazine has been in the forefront of this activity. An important cog in this spectrum is medical tourism and it is being promoted with great zeal by the government and private agencies.

It is a well-known fact that dental care in western countries is prohibitively costly and the waiting time for specific treatment is extremely long. For example, the approximate cost of a root canal treatment in the western countries is equal to the total cost of coming to Kerala, staying in a luxury hotel for about a week, enjoying the scenic beauty of gods own country and getting the same procedure done. In other words, the cost is 20 per cent less than what the patient will have to pay for the same treatment in any western country.

And what about the quality? "We, in Dr Rajkrishnan's Dental Clinic, are proud to introduce ourselves as having state-of-the-art, ultra modern and world class professional expertise, high tech infrastructure in equipment and classy ambience which are comparable, and sometimes better than, any other place in the world," says Dr. Rajkrishnan. Another point to be noted in Dental Tourism is that unlike Medical Tourism, patients who come from abroad for obtaining dental treatment need not be confined to their hotels because almost all dental procedures are out-patient procedures. Its justified to say that tourists need not compromise on their sight seeing agenda while receiving the treatment.

"We feel that appropriate emphasis must be given in promoting Dental Tourism as a prime segment of the total tourism scenario. It is sure to lure more and more tourists to our country who will be seeking international standards of dental care while doing the traditional tourist circuit," he added.
