The mood was buoyant at the BMICH convention centre in Colombo on September 24, as TAAI kicked off its 54th annual convention with a fitting innauguration that both dazzled as well as informed its members of how to meet an exceedingly dynamic future.

TAAI's 54th Convention was off to an ominously sanguine start as speakers and listeners alike set the tone at the inauguration at the BMICH, affirming their faith in Sri Lanka as a destination they stood by and agreeing to implement the changes imperative to see them beyond the decade.

SLTB Kickstarts US$ 1 Million Marketing Campaign For India
The Sri Lanka Tourist Board (SLTB) has introduced a brand new tourism marketing and promotion campaign for the Indian market. With a stipulated budget of US$ 1 million, SLTB aims at further increasing awareness of Sri Lanka's tourism potential in India.

TAAI Moots Joint Council Of Indian Tourism Associations
With an aim to work in unity to address key concerns and goals pertaining the Indian hospitality and tourism industry and ensure a substantial success, TAAI is to collaborate with the other industry associations from the Indian travel and hotel sector - TAFI, FHRAI and HAI to form a 'Joint Council Committee'.

TAAI In Talks With Other Countries For Joint Tourism Promotion
In effort to further promote Indian tourism in prime international markets, TAAI in collaboration with the Government of India has initiated talks with the tourism boards of China, England, South Africa and Thailand to formulate a joint tourism promotion plan between India and the respective countries individually.

Experts Bite Into Realities, First Up
The first business session at TAAI's 54th convention wasted no time in facing up the most pertinent issue dogging the Indian travel trade today - the prospect of receding airline commissions and the need for agents to overhaul their vanilla business of ticketing.
