Delhi Tourism And Transport Development Corporation (DTTDC),
has made serious efforts toward improving the procedures for tourism information
dissemination in the state. DTTDC aims to activate multi lingual websites in
various foreign languages, such as German, French, Spanish and Japanese. On
the local front, the organisation is planning to set up call centre hot-lines
for speedy information dispersal.
Appointing a special body called `tourist wardens' who would be placed at strategic
tourist interest spots such as airports, shopping plazas, monuments etc for
the benefit and convenience of the tourists is also proposed. Retired officers
from the forces or even from the police who would be interested in serving as
tourism wardens could also be part of the team.
Says Ramesh Negi, MD and CEO, Delhi Tourism And Transport Development Corporation
(DTTDC), "We have plans in place to improve the communication and information
providing facilities in the state. It is important for the tourists both national
and international to feel comfortable when in the city, hence we are aiming
to put some systems in place."
Apart from this, the state is also planning to improve weekend activities in
and around New Delhi. Starting water sports facilities from the locals, setting
up attractions such as butterfly parks, activating lake improvement and beautification
measures, providing better recreation facilities and shopping attractions like
introducing more `Delhi Haat' concepts are also planned by the state. Since
the state will be hosting the Commonwealth Games in 2010, there are a number
of tourism
and infrastructure improvement facilities, which are proposed to be launched
to be fully equipped to meet the requirements of the Games. There are proposals
for the surrounding NCR regions to work together to meet the challenges of the
2010 events. Adds, Negi, "It is extremely important for the neighbouring
towns to develop as today New Delhi as a region is definitely having a shortage
in terms of land availability, hence it important for the surrounding regions
to receive hospitality investments and other facilities that can work towards
the betterment of the entire region in general.
